My notice date-old job

January 21st, 2015 at 04:37 pm

Hi all,

My notice date.I went to work and said I could give 2 weeks notice.. they were thrilled and said they need that etc etc..They also said that my original PO is up THIS FRIDAY but an extension was in the works and I should assume I was worknig for 2 more weeks. They were going to do the right paperwork etc.

Much back and forth and updates occurred and basically they are not able to reach the person ( the final signer) who was to sign the work order so are just going to have me leave Friday.

That was what I originally wanted but upon thinking on it was going to work the extra week and bank that towards a vacation fund. I do not have time to list all the back and forth but how this was handled is very disappointing and shocking and makes me think that had I NOT given notice I would have been dropped anyway with no notice due to lack of the final signature.

Shocking .. demotivating and upsetting

I work at home today and will wrap things up for an end date of Friday.

The project sponsor is all upset and is trying to see if they can override the decision and keep me for a week but not feeling too confident.

tight month next month but onward!

Transitions can always have a few hurdles, but you'll get through it! Good luck!

The good news is you already have a job lined up!

The important thing is you did this the proper way, and cannot be criticized for leaving them in the lurch with inadequate notice. Maybe you can come up with a small side job to do that week to make up some of the loss. Or maybe you can relax, put your feet up, and savor what you have accomplished in the last year.

Turns out the project sponsor overrode the decision. I can bill over time this week (at straight rate) and can work next week with 2 days of that work at home and they may want more after hours... or phone only the week of the 9th to welcome my replacement.. train her etc.. I am wanting some time between jobs so will either take it easier on my work at home days or take off next Friday but 'vacation fund' here I come!! and if i it makes snense to go full time witih teh new company I may not need a vacation fund next year!! Need to establish a working routine w the new job that is more organized and lets me exercise and be less stressed. onward!! Nice to be wanted (at work). Thanks for the support everyone.
