Roth IRA-suggestions as to where to open or invest?

Hi all,

Continuing to get motivated by this forum.

I am considering opening a ROth IRA.. Any suggestions as to where to open it (online preferred,, low fees.. good options) and investment options. I believe these can go 'self directed' as well. I use to have Sharebuilder account.

Limit is $5500 for the year but I can contribute up til 4/15/2014.. so I may wait until I hear back from my accountant friend or year end so I can determine if I have any income phase out.

So fun to read other peoples successes and results. Smile

Anyone here invest in tax deeds??

    I think you have enough active management with your rental properties. Smile I suggest you stick with the tried and true, hands off approach. Open your Roth at Vanguard and choose the target retirement fund which most closely matches the time when you believe you will begin to draw from the Roth. All of VG's target retirement funds invest in VG's index funds. Your money will be split among US stocks and bonds and foreign stocks and bonds, passively managed and broadly diversified, with your very first contribution.

    Vanguard, for sure! Waiting until the end of the year (tax filing) is prudent.

    Signed up with Vanguard and put $1000 in. I can add to it later. Feels good to be doing something. Thanks guys!! I did the target fund. lower minimum and sounds like an easy way to get going.

    You will be happy with Vanguard. Good performance and LOW fees, which are both important.

    Vanguard all the way. (like everybody else). Their podcasts on investing are pretty good.
